All Linacre Old Members, friends, Fellows, students, and staff are invited to the annual Domus Prize competition on Saturday, 1st July, starting at 4:00 pm in the Tanner Room. A short-list of six students, selected by the College Academic Committee from the long list of applicants, will compete for three Domus Prizes worth £500 each; runners up will each receive a £50 prize. The presentations, which will be pitched for a non-specialist audience, will take no more than 15 minutes each, including an opportunity for the audience to ask questions. The event will begin promptly at 4pm in the Tanner Room, and will conclude by 6 pm with the announcement of the winners. All members of the audience will be able to cast a vote for the Prize winners.

All Linacre Members are invited to attend a dinner in Philadelphia on Wednesday, June 21, at The Racquet Club, 215 South 16th Street, Philadelphia. The evening will start with drinks at 6.00 pm, followed by dinner at 7.00 pm in the Sailing Room. Guests may order and pay individually on the night. A menu may be found below.
There will be a Linacre Drinks Reception in the Front Lounge of The City Club of Washington, 555 13th St. NW, at 6.00 to 8.30 pm, on Tuesday June 20th, thanks to the kind introduction by Bruce Reynolds (1973), who chairs the Linacre Society in the US. Drinks and canapés will be served.
The 2017 Linacre Lecture will be given by Professor John Knox, on Tuesday 20th June 2017 at 17:30 in the Tanner Room. Professor Knox’s lecture is entitled “Global Threats to Environmental Human Rights Defenders".
All Linacre members are invited to attend the unveiling of the Dancing Phoenix by Hugo Powell on Thursday 15th June 2017.
The Sculpture has been gifted to the College by Hugo Powell’s family and they will be attending the unveiling. A film about the Sculptor will be shown in the Tanner Room at 6.30pm, along with a glass of bubbly to toast the occasion and then we will go out to the Jaki Leverson Quad at 7pm for the unveiling. The Principal will then host the family to Guest Night Dinner.
The 2017 Tanner Lecture will be hosted by Linacre College on 8th June and the speaker will be Professor George Ellis, FRS. The title is “On the origin and nature of values”.

TITLE: Creating Health and Wellbeing in Universities
The annual Linacre Summer Reception in London will be held on Tuesday, 30th May, at the Oxford and Cambridge Club, Pall Mall, in the elegant Princess Marie Louise Room. Drinks and light canapés will be served. We are especially delighted that Dr Quintin Colville, Curator of Naval History at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, and a former Linacre Junior Research Fellow, will be giving an illustrated talk on the life of Lady Emma Hamilton--the subject of a recent major special exhibition at the National Maritime Museum.
All Linacre Old Members (and their partners and children or Linacre-linked chums) are invited to attend a friendly and informal lunchtime gathering in Gloucestershire which is being organised by Linacre Old Member Dr Annis May Timpson (1977), on Saturday, 6 May, at 1.00 pm at the Royal Oak Inn, Leighterton, www.royaloakleighterton.co.uk . This has been recommended as a child-friendly pub with good food.
Dr Shadreck Chirikure, ACU Visiting Fellow 2017 at Linacre College, will give the ACU Lecture on Thursday 4th May in the Tanner Room, Linacre College, at 5.30 pm. The title of Dr Chirikure’s lecture is “Was the population of Great Zimbabwe (CE1000-1700) similar to that of modern day Hong Kong?” The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception. All welcome.
