We are very excited to invite you to a wonderful ‘Dinner and Jazz’ evening in College on Friday, September 19th, held in conjunction with the Oxford University Alumni Meeting Minds Weekend. All members and their guests are welcome to attend; you do not have to attend the University Weekend in order to attend the Linacre event.
The two-course dinner (main and dessert) includes wine, and will be followed by a jazz concert at 9 pm featuring Trio Spin—guitar, double bass, and drums—who will be performing a selection of jazz standards by jazz greats such as Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Wayne Shorter and Pat Metheny. You need not be a jazz aficionado to enjoy this lively, entertaining, and accessible programme. All three musicians work regularly together in Oxford at The Spin Jazz Club, which was voted Best Live Jazz 2012 in the Parliamentary Jazz Awards. The Spin celebrated 15 years this May, and Trio Spin had the pleasure of jamming with Nigel Kennedy as their special guest for that evening. Brief (and impressive) bios of the professional careers of the three musicians may be viewed below. We are especially pleased that the drummer, Dr Mark Doffman, is the incoming Susan and George Brownlee JRF, and the first to hold this Fellowship. We are very grateful to him for making this special event possible.
Tickets are £25/person, which includes dinner, wine, and the performance. The easiest way to book is online via the University Store (link below). If you do not wish to book online, you may download the booking form (either Word or pdf version) and return it to Marsaleete Anderson, Linacre College, St Cross Road, Oxford OX1 3JA. Please do not e-mail credit card details as they cannot be accepted. All bookings should be made no later than Tuesday, 9th September.
