Linacre College’s annual Summer Reception in London will be held at the Cinema Museum in Kennington on Tuesday, May 19, 6.30 – 9.00 pm. Linacre Old Members, Fellows, and their guests are invited to join us for sparkling wine, canapés, and a nostalgic journey through the artefacts and memorabilia of cinema before the multiplex. In keeping with our established tradition of finding unusual and lesser known London ‘gems’, the Cinema Museum is a quirky Aladdin’s Cave of cinema history. It is located in the former Lambeth Workhouse, a striking Victorian building which on several occasions was the temporary home of the young Charlie Chaplin and his destitute mother. We gratefully acknowledge the invaluable support of Priscilla Baines (1964), Honorary Fellow, who not only found the venue, but has once again underwritten the hire cost so we can offer tickets at a modest charge.
The evening will include 20-minute tours of the museum, as well as a short film (both optional) in addition to sparkling wine, canapés, and the opportunity to look at the collection at your own pace. Tickets are £20 / person.
The easiest and most secure way to book is through the University Online Store via the link here . If you have a question, need further information, or would prefer to pay by UK sterling cheque or bank transfer, please contact Marsaleete Anderson.
