What is Matriculation?
Matriculation confers membership of the University on students. This typically happens at a formal ceremony at the start of your course. Everything you need to know is explained on the University website, at the following link: Matriculation | University of Oxford
When should you matriculate?
New students will be matriculated at the end of the 1st week of Michaelmas term. For the 2022/23 academic year, matriculation will take place on Saturday 15th October 2022. Please ensure you keep the day free and expect to receive detailed instructions closer to the time.
If your course starts at a different time, there are ceremonies at the end of each Michaelmas term and at the end of each Hilary and Trinity term. You must matriculate within two terms of starting your course, otherwise you will be unable to take a University examination.
You matriculate at the start of your first degree from the University of Oxford. You do not need to matriculate at the start of any subsequent degrees at the University.
What should I wear to matriculate?
The required dress for matriculation is known as sub fusc, details of which are available from the academic dress page.
