Lawyers’ Network

The College established its first professional network of Linacre Lawyers in 2009. Any alumnus with a law degree or following a career in law is encouraged to contact the Alumni Office, for more information.

We have nearly 200 members globally, as far flung as Argentina, Australia, Canada, Hungary, Nigeria, and the USA, as well as a majority in the UK. These are a mix of academics, barristers, criminologists, patent attorneys, and solicitors.

Professor David Collins (2002), Professor of International Economic Law at City, University of London, is Chair of the Linacre Lawyers’ Network from 1st August 2019. He succeeds Dr Paul England (1993) of Taylor Wessing, who fulfilled this role with dedication for 10 years.

The aim is to organise events once or twice a year, predominantly in London, where lawyers can network and also listen to talks on various subjects.

Past events include: Dinners at the Oxford & Cambridge Club, at an Old Members’ law firm in Hammersmith, and at Lincoln’s Inn; Talks by: Dr Nina Jorgensen (1994), Professor of Law at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, on ‘A Linacre lawyer’s “journey without maps” through international criminal justice’; Professor Ian O’Donnell Adjunct Fellow and Criminologist, of University College Dublin, on his book on coercive confinement, at Tanfield Chambers (venue was courtesy of Dr Cecily Crampin (1998) ) and, most recently, a Q & A session with Professor Richard Macrory, Supernumerary Fellow when much of the discussion focussed on Brexit.
