Linacre College is working towards the ambition of achieving net-zero emissions as soon as is practically possible.

Proud of our heritage as a Green College – Linacre staff, students and fellows are working together to identify opportunities to reduce our impact on the natural environment, increase sustainability and conserve and enhance biodiversity across the estate.

Our Net Zero Carbon Strategy Group are prioritising an assessment of our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions footprint to identify areas that we can most effectively target to mitigate College’s negative impact on the environment.

Linacre College hosts a Green Society which was developed to cultivate an environmentally friendly outlook among members and has evolved to promote sustainable lifestyle choices. The society aims to positively feedback to the planet by educating members on the 3 Rs of reduce, re-use and recycle.

In September 2023, works commenced on a significant decarbonisation project at College. Linacre has secured government funding from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) which is delivered by Salix Finance and supports further capital investment provided by College to remove our reliance on gas across the estate.

We are also delighted that works have started on a full refurbishment of the Bamborough Building and that this project will not only offer an enhanced student accommodation experience but will also reduce our carbon footprint.
