Linacre College is seeking to appoint multiple Junior Deans to join our welfare and pastoral support team from an agreed date in summer 2025, and no later than the start of Michaelmas Term 2025.
About the Role:
Junior Deans play a key role in supporting the wellbeing of the Linacre College community. Working closely with the Common Room Executive Committee, Lodge, and College staff, they help ensure a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment for all members of the College.
As a member of a team of four you will be sharing responsibility for maintaining a visible and supportive presence in College and participate in a duty rota to ensure round-the-clock cover throughout the year.
Who Can Apply:
You must be postgraduate students of the University of Oxford and eligible to work in the UK. If you are successful and are not currently a member of Linacre College you will normally be expected to migrate to the College.
Terms and Benefits:
Appointments are for a fixed term of two years (or until you are granted leave to supplicate, whichever is shorter). The role includes:
A stipend of £3,000 per annum
Free single accommodation on the main College site
Free dining at standard College lunches and dinners
Up to four complimentary Formal Hall meals per term
Expectations of the Role:
You are expected to be an approachable and proactive member of the College community, providing informal welfare support and contributing to the College’s inclusive culture. The role requires flexibility, the ability to manage unpredictable situations, and availability during evenings, weekends, and vacation periods.
You should consider whether their academic commitments are compatible with the demands of the role.
Please note: While Junior Deans participate in a duty rota, they are expected to act as representatives of the College and uphold the responsibilities of the role at all times—not only while formally on duty. As trusted and visible members of the community, Junior Deans should serve as role models and be responsive to welfare concerns, particularly within the College accommodation where they reside.
