Better utilisation of the roof space has allowed for five extra bedrooms, and all 24 study bedrooms are now ensuite. The bottom floor of the Bamborough also features a fully accessible bedroom, kitchen and dedicated accessible entrance.

The refurbishment scheme is part of a wider project to decarbonise the entire Linacre estate. Almost £1.4 million of funding, secured from Salix, has contributed towards the College removing reliance on gas from the Bamborough, OC Tanner and Abraham Buildings. Each of these properties have been fitted with innovative air source heat pump systems and improved insulation.

The second phase of the flagship project will soon be underway and will decarbonise seven offsite student properties, representing 50% of the Linacre estate.

Linacre Principal, Nick Leimu-Brown, cut the ribbon to officially re-open the Bamborough Building under blue skies and sunshine today. He said;

“I am thrilled to inaugurate the newly refurbished Bamborough Building, transformed  to exemplary energy-efficiency standards, setting a benchmark for sustainable living and providing our students with a comfortable, eco-friendly home away from home.”
