Linacre students lived at numbers 7 & 8 Brewer Street for well over two decades, enjoying the central location, the dubious plumbing, an electricity meter which didn’t require feeding and the mysterious trap door in the kitchen floor…
The Brewer Street Scholarship was the brainchild of Dr Caroline Bucklow (1978), who, along with Bruce Reynolds (1973), has generously made significant gifts for the fund, as well as 12 other kind donors. We warmly thank all of these contributors.
“Why ‘Brewer Street’?” some may ask.
Linacre students lived at numbers 7 & 8 Brewer Street for well over two decades, enjoying the central position, the dubious plumbing, an electricity meter which didn’t need feeding, gaps galore in the black-painted floorboards and the mysterious trap door in the kitchen floor! Brewer Street is now part of Pembroke College but the old Linacre houses are still there, and the memory of that unique community deserves to be remembered to future generations of students who now live cushier lives in modern College residences such as the Griffiths Building and Neil Fraser-Bell House.
Linacre Old Members who lived in Brewer Street include the current Principal, himself a donor to this fund.
