The Women’s First Eight raced in their newly named shell, River Action, complete with River Action stickers on the looms of their blades. Rising on the bump charts for the first time since 2019, W1 achieved a breath-taking over bump on Trinity during day one, a decisive bump on Hertford during day two, and an attempt at over bumping St Anne’s on day three. Day four saw W1 in a thrillingly tight three boat sandwich, with Green Templeton a canvas ahead, and Exeter a canvas behind. W1 held off Exeter until the end of Boathouse Island but sadly were eventually bumped. They start next year at 18th on the river, on bungline 6 of division two.
The Men’s First Eight competed in their brand new shell Frederick Mulder. Linacre Men’s First Eight maintained their position on the river in division three, after being bumped by Green Templeton on day one, rowing over in a daring escape from University on day two, and achieving a well deserved bump on Corpus Christi, 70m from the finish line, on the final day. The men will start on bungline 7 of division three in 2025.
The Women’s Second Eight rowed in Elspeth Garman, netting -1 for this year’s Summer Eights campaign. On day one, W2 bumped Lincoln in less than 250m and on day two, W2 almost caught Magdalen at the top in the division, but ultimately rowed over. On the final two days, the Women’s Second Eight were bumped by Pembroke despite a clean and fast start, and then bumped by Oriel.
After a tough year of limited rowing due to poor river conditions, Linacre Boat Club are delighted to have fielded three strong boats at Summer Eights this year and look forward to further success on the water.
