We are eager to develop alumni networks and societies in more countries and are happy to work with alumni wishing to establish a Linacre Society in their home country. If you are interested in establishing a society, please email Lisa Smårs.
African Network
This African Network was created in summer 2016; members are either African nationals, living in Africa or elsewhere, or other Linacre members with a strong link or interest in the continent.
Current members number over 300, and include links with 35 African countries. The only physical meetings, to date, have taken place in College, organised by our enthusiastic representatives, Ndjodi Ndeunyema (Namibia), Ruth Nyabuto (Kenya), and Boipelo Tshwene-Mauchaza (Botswana), though there are plans afoot for a gathering in Kenya. With four current Linacre scholarships for African students, one of which, Norman & Ivy Lloyd, dates back to the early 1990s, there is a strong African presence in College. Typically there are annually over 30 students from Africa, which is around 10% of the total of African students in Oxford. We are delighted that the President of the Oxford University Africa Society, 2017-2018 is a Linacre member, Ndjodi Ndeunyema, doing a DPhil in Law.
E-mail bulletins are sent to the Network four times a year, to deepen the network, and further engage its members.

Also key to Linacre’s African Network is TEST for Africa, the educational charity set up in 2008 by Old Member and Honorary Fellow Dr Keith Lloyd (1967) along with Linacre Old Members in Africa who forms its trustees. The TEST chair is Dr Nick Leimu-Brown, Principal. To date this charity has funded hundreds of scholarships for students in Ghana, Malawi and Uganda. Its aim is to aid the social and economic development of Africa by enabling bright but needy students to receive undergraduate education at local public Universities and Polytechnics against their personal pledge to work for the benefit of their communities and their nation upon graduation.

Business/Finance/Law (BFL) Network
This global network gives Linacre alumni working in business, finance or law the opportunity to network with other Linacrites in similar areas. The BFL Network holds social events and talks mainly in London and occasionally in New York (and would be happy to consider other suggestions) and links members electronically. In our most recent event, alumnus Asim Khwaja (2003) spoke on “Demystifying Technology and Cyber Challenges in the Corporate World”.
We are constantly on the lookout for interesting venues to hold our events and would love to hear from you if you have a space to recommend or share with the group. To be in touch with fellow professionals, be added to the mailing list or for any more information, please contact the Alumni Office.
Hong Kong Linacre Society
Following the success of the dinner at the Hong Kong Club in May 2023, there is renewed interest in establishing an ongoing Linacre Hong Kong Society to enable better communications between the Linacre alumni in the area, as well as offer opportunities for informal social occasions.
All Linacre members who live in Hong Kong, or who plan to visit, are warmly invited to join. To indicate your interest in being in touch with other Linacre members in Hong Kong, and to hear about upcoming events, please send your name and e-mail address to Dr Simon Griffin.
Italian Linacre Society
Since 2000, the Italian Linacre Society has organised an annual Italian Linacre Lecture, rotating around various Italian cities, including Bologna, Florence, Genoa, Milan (twice), Padua, Pisa, Rome (many times), and the Isle of Capri (Naples), with alumni giving the lectures. The Society has also helped the College with fundraising projects, notably setting up a three-year link with Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena.

Japanese Linacre Society
The Linacre Japan Society has held several dinners in Tokyo, and one in Kobe, and also successfully raised funds for both the 40th and 50th Linacre Anniversary Campaigns. To find out more about the Society, please contact the Alumni Office.
Lawyers' Network
The College established its first professional network of Linacre Lawyers in 2009. We have nearly 200 members globally, in places such as Argentina, Australia, Canada, Poland, Hungary, Nigeria, and the USA, with a mix of academics, barristers, criminologists, patent attorneys, and solicitors. The Network aims to organise events once or twice a year, predominantly in London, where lawyers can network and also listen to talks on various subjects.
Professor David Collins (2002), a Professor of International Economic Law at City, University of London, has been Chair of the Linacre Lawyers’ Network since 2019. He succeeds Dr Paul England (1993) of Taylor Wessing. Past events include talks by Dr Nina Jorgensen (1994), Professor of Law at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, on ‘A Linacre lawyer’s “journey without maps” through international criminal justice’; Professor Ian O’Donnell Adjunct Fellow and Criminologist of University College Dublin, on his book on coercive confinement, at Tanfield Chambers (venue was courtesy of Dr Cecily Crampin (1998) ).
