This network was created in summer 2016; members are either African nationals, living in Africa or elsewhere, or other Linacre members with a strong link or interest in the continent.
Current members number over 300, and include links with 35 African countries. The only physical meetings, to date, have taken place in College, organised by our enthusiastic representatives, Ndjodi Ndeunyema (Namibia), Ruth Nyabuto (Kenya), and Boipelo Tshwene-Mauchaza (Botswana), though there are plans afoot for a gathering in Kenya. With four current Linacre scholarships for African students, one of which, Norman & Ivy Lloyd, dates back to the early 1990s, there is a strong African presence in College. Typically there are annually over 30 students from Africa, which is around 10% of the total of African students in Oxford. We are delighted that the President of the Oxford University Africa Society, 2017-2018 is a Linacre member, Ndjodi Ndeunyema, doing a DPhil in Law.
E-mail bulletins are sent to the Network four times a year, to deepen the network, and further engage its members.

Also key to Linacre’s African Network is TEST for Africa, the educational charity set up in 2008 by Old Member and Honorary Fellow Dr Keith Lloyd (1967) along with Linacre Old Members in Africa who forms its trustees. The TEST chair is Dr Nick Brown, Principal. To date this charity has funded hundreds of scholarships for students in Ghana, Malawi and Uganda. Its aim is to aid the social and economic development of Africa by enabling bright but needy students to receive undergraduate education at local public Universities and Polytechnics against their personal pledge to work for the benefit of their communities and their nation upon graduation.
